Paul Cocksedge, London 2012
At the forefront of art/technology, with a wide ranging imagination – here, his "crystal" is only beams of light.
Yes, it really is all done with mirrors. Paul Cocksedge is standing inside one of his own "digital crystals", an illusion created by laser beams bouncing off mirrors. When Paul breaks the beams with his body, the illusion is partly shattered. This clever stuff was part of a show sponsored by Swarovski at the Design Museum in 2012. We staged this picture between us to demonstrate the effect – it was hand-held without a tripod, and we were pretty glad to pull it off.
Paul runs his London-based studio with co-director Joana Pinho. They have become famous for their ambitious installations – including a wonderful woven web surrounding the auditorium at 100% Design 2012
And a big round sculpture called Drop attracted copper pennies on the South Bank in 2010
