Jaime Hayon, Milan 2009
Flamboyant Spanish designer, whose ceramics, furniture, lighting (and more) exude joie-de-vivre, humour, and beauty.
Jaime Hayon, with a studio just a couple of years old, introduced himself to me in 2006 at the Design Annual, which was a new fair in Frankfurt (sadly, it did not last long). It was evident that his baroque baths and basins were outstandingly original. Accordingly his career – full of imagination, fantasy and fun – rapidly escalated. Here he was showing off his Sparkle Shady pieces for Swarovski at Euroluce in Milan in 2007. Not yet 40, but with a string of products/projects to his name, Hayon is one of several contemporary designers who has achieved success remarkably young.
