Francesco Draisci, London 2012
London-based designer, always-imaginative, as here with this umbrella canopy over red scaffolding.
There are a 100 red and pink Fulton umbrellas in this installation in St James' Church Garden – called Spring Forest - which cast a rosy glow and and also provided some welcome shelter from the rain during Clerkenwell Design Week, 2012.
Architect Francesco has one of those (award-winning) practices which turn their hands to many projects, from buildings to interiors to exhibitions and to installations. "We like to blur the boundaries between the practical and the poetic," he says. I was intrigued to find that it was his studio that designed one of my favourite exhibitions ever – Decode: digital design sensations, which took place at the V&A in early 2010
