Alessandro Mendini, Milan 2011

Star of avant-garde Italian design continuing to make
dreams real – such as these huge gold mosaics for Venetian Bisazza.

Barbara writes:
Huge gold mosaic sculptures frame maestro Alessandro Mendini, designer, architect and image conultant. They were made for his Collezione Bisazza between 1997 and 2004 "Some things never change," he told me, "such as love, beauty and death. And I never know what is coming next - I go to work everyday like a blue-collar, and see what happens."
Mr Mendini is giant of modern design that you cannot pigeon-hole. His website is a flickering kaleidoscope of projects and disciplines "freely mixed."
I tried to contact every designer who appears in JOY OF DESIGN. Many did not even reply. One asked to be withdrawn. But Mr Mendini sent me a personal email which I shall always treasure and reproduce here:
Dear Barbara,
Your show will be very beautiful and I send you my compliments for all your hard work. Thank you for the invitation and all the details you sent me.
I love the title "Joy of Design" - it expresses positive energy!
Unfortunately, I will not be coming to the opening, but my thoughts will be with you!
Warm regards,
