Sir John Sorrell CBE (born in an air raid shelter in 1945) is chair and co-founder of the London Design Festival, and has played a key part in building it up to a capital-wide affair with over 300 events. His design cred is incred – and he was not-surprisingly knighted in 2008 for "services to the creative industries. He's been chair of both the Design Council and CABE. is born in an air-raid shelter in 1945. Now he runs his own design consultancy partnered by his wife Frances, both passionately devoted to bringing design education to young people. Sorrell is a UK business ambassador, and was the man behind Lancaster House's complete refit with contemporary British design during its spell as the British Business Embassy during the Olympics.
