British design studio, famous nationwide for the Olympic Torch; also with a huge body of award-winning designs, from furniture to architecture.
The 2012 Olympic Torch itself is the focus of this photograph, flanked by its designers Jay Osgerby (left) and Ed Barber. The brief for the Torch from the 2012 London Olympic Committee was that it should be "both functional and an emblem of the Games". Made in Britain from aluminium, and using the very latest laser technology, the torch has 8000 perforations, to symbolise the 8000 runners who took part in the torch relay, covering 8000 miles.
