Ingo Maurer, Frankfurt 2006

Poetic and acclaimed German lighting designer embracing advanced technology, but opposing the demise of the tungsten bulb.

I have met Ingo a couple of time, reverentially as he has been a great name in lighting since the 70s. "If the suit makes the man, then the light makes the space," he says.
His all-time classic is a tungsten bulb with wings. Now his studio has more than 60 people in it. He is always pushing the boundaries of lighting technology, yet mounted a strong campain to oppose energy-saving regulations that ban the sale of tungsten bulbs. Here we were in Frankfurt at a trade fair, and Ingo was talking about the new OLEDs. He was affable and friendly and posed briefly for this picture.
