Love London

Barbara Chandler's major show - Love London - was in Habitat's flagship Regent Street Store in September 2008, in a historic circular picture gallery which dates back to 1887. Barbara's pictures (38 in this show) span 20 years, and are shot on a variety of film, from grainy black- and-white to clear joyous colour. These are Barbara's own personal take on London sights and scenes, some seemingly familiar, others sharply unexpected, but all observed with an idiosyncratic eye. Shoppers, buskers, children, guards, commuters, revellers, market traders and simply passers-by - these  have become photo tableaux at various times.

A new version of VISIONS OF POLAND was shown at the Truman Brewery at the Tent London design show in September 2009. The photographs depict life in rural Poland in the early 90s, and supported an exhibition of modern Polish design entitled Polska Folk.

Hidden heart of Hackney

Pictures of Hackney people and places were shown in Broadway Market in 1999/2000.
Barbara had photographed a little heart graffitted onto a corrugated door in Hackney, whilst visiting the organisers of the Hidden Art of Hackney, who then kindly made available an empty shop for her show.

Celebration

Celebration! (August-September 2012) was at Pitfield London, an eclectic gallery, shop and restaurant owned and curated by textile designer Paul Brewster and interior designer Shaun Clarkson. The show featured photographs taken during the years of the Royal Wedding, the Silver Jubilee and the Olympics (2011-2012), out on the streets and in the parks and on the riverbanks of London, when flags were flying, the bunting was out, and people waited patiently to see processions, pageants and performers, and celebrated with picnics, music and dance. The show also included older photographs celebrating London's fashion, carnivals, street musicians and entertainers, and the general capacity of Londoners to have a good time in their own and sometimes a little eccentric fashion. Photographs were also presented on products designed in-house by Pitfield – silk cushions, bone china plates, a lampshade, chairs, postcards and tea towels.
